A Message From Dr. Eric Smith

In 1980 as a freshman in college, I happened to live next door to a professional building where a Chiropractor had just opened an office. From my desk I could observe patients as they came and went. Many limped or were clearly in great pain. I watched whole families go in together, and most patients seemed to leave not only looking more healthy, but happier.

I decided that I wanted to know what was happening in this chiropractor’s office, and one day my chance presented itself when I developed a serious neck and back injury. The pain was so bad that I could barely study, and I knew just where to go.

My injury improved greatly by seeing the Chiropractor next door. I began helping him with paperwork after school, and he took time with me to explain how my body worked, why I had pain, and the ways in which chiropractic helped. His work influenced me so much that I decided to help others in the same way. I enrolled in courses at Palmer College of Chiropractic-West and by 1987 I was ready to enter practice.

Studying chiropractic at Palmer College taught me about treating patients, and more importantly about the wholeness of the body and the control of the nervous system. I developed a deep respect for what it means to be human. The miracle of the body, the power of the nervous system, and the impact of stress on these systems fascinated me. I learned that every time I ask my patients, “How are you,” I receive a gift in the form of their trust in me and in Chiropractic.

A bit more about me…

I’ve been married to my best friend Shay for 25 years. We have three children: Owen, Anna and Emory. My youngest recently graduated from high school, and although they’re all grown up, we still enjoy annual family camping trips and spending time with our three dogs - Jake, Oscar and Scottie. Shay and I play in a band where we get to pretend we’re still teenagers now and then. Shay is very active in Bay Area theater and has performed in many plays at the Masquers Playhouse, Pinole Community Players and Contra Costa Civic to name a few. Lastly, I build guitars and vacuum tube amplifiers in my spare time.

Enough about me… How can we help you? Give us a call or click ‘Book Online’ to get started!
